3. A light pen must have light input from the monitor screen in order to function properly. A black screen indicates the absence of light. Change your background color to colors that provide good input for light pens. The most favorable is blue, but grays and whites work quite well. Verify the following indications on the USB Adapter Green Light to confirm that the Light Pen/Kit is functional :

Green LED On When:

  • Light pen recognized and installed on the USB Port
  • Light is DIM when operational and not in proximity of the screen
  • Light is BRIGHT when operational and in proximity of the screen

Green LED Off When:

  • Light pen not recognized on the USB Port
  • When the USB adapter is not connected to the USB Port
  • When the computer is in hibernation mode

If:

  • The Light Pen cable is open then:
    • The green LED will be on and dim but the Light Pen will have no effect when pointed at the screen.
  • The USB Cable is open then:
    • The green LED will be off and The Light pen will not be functional.
  • The Sync Cable is open to Adapter then:
    • The green LED will be off. The cursor can be used with a mouse. The LED will not come on when the Light Pen is in proximity of the screen. While the cursor is on screen, pushing any light pen button will cause the green LED to light and the cursor to disappear from the screen.
